The Toronto International Car Show 2008
As the largest Canadian Car Show, it was a bit over hyped, but isn't it always? The show for the most part, featured cars that are already available at the dealers, or soon will be. The actual show was a bit of a let down. It was spread out over too many levels and in three buildings, signage was poor and it was not easy to find all the connecting tunnels and corridors!
My biggest disappointment was, however, with some of the exhibitors. Understandingly, most of the higher priced exotic cars were behind velvet roped barriers. However, the attendants did not have to be so uncooperative and even rude, when asked if one could get closer to take a better photo. The attendants just rambled off all kinds of excuses why one cannot "It has been sold already" was one of the most common ones. Note, I did NOT ask for a test drive in that particular car on display or even ask to sit behind the wheel! And if they were sold already then why were these cars on display? If I would have purchased and paid $250K or more for a Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati or $500K+ for Mercedes McLaren SLR, let me assure you, my car would not have been on display! The bottom line was nothing more than, I did not fit the "potential customer's profile" in their eyes.
For me, the Lamborghini Theatre displaying a selection of Lamborghini models from the beginning to date, was one of the highlights along with some of the older cars that had been entered and won in the Cruise Nationals. Only a few interesting concept cars were on display. Some of my favourite's for this year were the soon available ZR1 Corvette, the Audi R8, the Mercedes E63 AMG sport sedan and the new Cadillac CS-V which will be one of the best values in performance sedans. The opinions and commentary expressed on these pages are my own point of views, are not endorsed by any manufacturer or may necessarily reflect what the manufacturers would like the public think about their vehicles.
