This year’s event included the return of the Blue Angels and perhaps the last “Jato” (Jet assisted take off) with Fat Albert. WOW! The Blue Angels can certainly put on an awesome performance, even if on Sunday they had some mechanical difficulty with one, which was very quickly replaced by #7! And speaking of Fat Albert, what a show it put on Sunday. One could feel the extreme acceleration, tight turns and the stopping power of this large Hercules C-47 even from the flight line. Now, imagine being inside during all those maneuvers, as I had the pleasure being inside the Blue Angels Fat Albert! Of course flying in a jet L-39C is a bit more fun, especially in tight formation with 3 other L-39C jets, and doing barrel rolls and a loop or two. Other major attractions included the MV-22 Osprey, US Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, A-10 East Demonstration Team, and a fly-by of F-16s, B-52 and a KC-135 tanker. What a weekend! The staff of the Indianapolis Air Show led by Roger Bishop sure know how to put together an air show!
