Victory Days, Terre Haute, Indiana 2008
Victory Days event at the Terre Haute International Airport, Hulman Field, Terre Haute, Indiana, was quite an interesting WWII era event. It was about Honoring and Preserving the America of WWII. Victory Days, had several venues and participants from WWII warbirds such as the B-17, P-47 Thunderbolt, P-51 Mustang, C-47 Skytrain the "Black Sparrow", WWII training aircraft such as the T-6, Civil commercial aircraft from the era such as the DC-3, and, some of these participated in an air show. There were also re-enactors, educational displays, cars from the era, and dinner dances. |
I had lots of fun not just because I was the Official Photographer, but I met many wonderful people too. My thanks and lasting gratitude goes to Rick Siegfried, President of EAA Warbirds Of America, David Rothenanger "R+10" Air Boss, Bob Bos and the crew of C-47 Black Sparrow, Richard Ash and the crew of B-17F Memphis Belle, David Huffman and the crew of A-26B Lady Liberty, Colonel Bonte of Indiana ANG, Guy Eoff, Linda Sparks, Kirk Pickens, Tom Simpson, Bill Foraker, and countless others who made it all happen. Furthermore, I had the pleasure to do some air to air warbird photography, which was a bit more than I bargained for. If you stick your camera out an open canopy at 160 knots you will know exactly what I mean. Due to the size of my D3 camera with the 24-70mmf2.8 lens combination, I had no choice, as the cockpit canopy on the T-6 Texan was just not wide enough for photography.
